“Anna refused to be drawn into giving an interview about Grace, despite Miranda’s push”
The episode starts with Grace asking Miss Lucy how to get a job, as she wants to help her mom, Anna. Miss Lucy tells her it’s the parent’s responsibility to look after their children, but Grace insists and offers to work for Miss Lucy since she can do all the household chores. Miss Lucy tells her that what she needs to do is simply be a kid.
After finishing with the authorities, Anna was leaving when Miranda stopped her, requesting an interview as she’d like to get Anna’s side of the story. But Anna politely rejected the offer, saying she wasn’t comfortable. Miranda explained the interview would be like she was just talking to the authorities, the neighbors, or her mother.
Anna told her she wasn’t the right person for that, as she was only a substitute teacher for Grace’s class. She said the other teachers knew her better, so Miranda should ask them instead. Miranda insisted, saying she only wanted to know the truth. Anna responded that she knew her and that she helps mothers in need, but not all mothers are the same.
Before leaving, Anna met Julius, who started accusing her of being a good liar. Anna tried to change the subject, but he asked her where Grace was. She told him she didn’t know, and seeing how he kept insisting she knew something made her think he was doing all this because of what she did to him.
Julius told her not to flatter herself, as it was part of his job to find out what happened to Grace. Anna reminded him of the kind of woman she is, saying she’s not someone who cares about kids.
They may not have seen eachother for a long time, but she hasn’t changed. She said she hoped they would find Grace but asked him to leave her alone, as she had nothing to do with what happened.
Lucy took Grace’s help to get keys from her son’s house but got caught before they could leave. He was furious at her for what she did and told her he was taking her to the nursing home, as he didn’t like how she was living in the orphanage. He said her memory had started faltering, so she needed to leave.
Lucy wanted to stay in his house since it was her house too, but he told her she needed someone by her side always, and he couldn’t do that as he had work to do. Anna said she would take care of Lucy, but he didn’t agree and told her to find somewhere else to live, as once his mom left, he was tearing down the orphanage.
Anna started losing it, as she couldn’t believe her situation. She had been kicked out of the only place she thought was safe for her, she had to deal with the police, and she didn’t have enough money to leave the country. She started venting her anger on Grace, thinking the girl was the reason they’d have to leave the orphanage.
The child started sobbing, as all she wanted was to help her mom. Anna felt guilty, and before she could call her name, Grace quickly left. The next morning, Lucy explained to Anna about Grace’s intentions, then handed her a box containing Anna’s information from when she was brought to the orphanage as a baby.
She shared some personal items with her and revealed that her real name is Grace, but her adoptive parents had named her Anna Grace. Grace cut off her hair so she wouldn’t be recognized, Meanwhile Miss Lucy was in a heated argument with her son Bobby, who wanted her to leave the orphanage so he could sell it.
She refused to give in. He started accusing her of neglecting him when he was a child because all she cared about was the orphanage. Grace intervened and managed to make him see reason after telling him what his mom had gone through just to be with him.
Miss Lucy admitted that she wasn’t a good mother but wanted to make up for it. All she wanted from her son was a chance to make amends before she died. With Grace’s help, she managed to calm him down, and he agreed to let Lucy stay with him.
