No Greater Love Episode 1

“Samuel and Franco begin on the wrong foot in Salvacion, but after helping each other, they build an unexpected friendship”

The episode begins with Samuel arriving at the old mansion, holding a note as he looks around, seemingly searching for someone. At the same time, Isabel also arrives, smiling as she scans the area. However, the two just miss seeing each other.

The story then flashes back to 1964. Young Samuel runs toward his mother, Elena, who is working a sugarcane field. He expresses concern about her overworking herself and insists on helping, but Elena prefers that he focus on his studies.

She wants him to have a better life than theirs. Confused, Samuel asks why she doesn’t want him to be like them, and Elena explains that she dreams of a brighter future for him.

Elsewhere, Don Maximo happily congratulates his son-in-law, Eduardo, for winning the elections. At the same event, Gonzalo arrives with his wife, prompting whispers among some women who question his presence after his loss, even calling him bad luck.

Meanwhile, Elena’s father informs her about the ranch owner preparing new contracts for new workers. Despite this, Elena refuses to stop working, as she needs to support Samuel’s education. Her mother suggests they move to a new plantation in Salvacion.

Though reluctant at first, Elena eventually agrees after her parents insist. Soon after, the Severino and Roque families embark on their journey to Salvacion. In another scene, Monica tearfully confides in her aunt Rebecca, revealing that her father has disowned her and cut off her hair because of her relationship with a worker.

Instead of offering support, Rebecca criticizes Monica, leaving her shocked and hurt. Later that day, Gonzalo tells Rebecca that he does not want Monica visiting their home anymore, fearing she could negatively influence his daughter, Isabel.

The Severino family arrives in Salvacion, and Samuel is amazed by the size of the place. While inspecting a car, he notices Isabel, but Franco quickly intervenes and pushes him away. Not wanting to cause trouble, Elena pulls Samuel aside and apologizes to Franco and Isabel before leaving with Samuel and Mona.

The family secures jobs at Don Gonzalo’s plantation. However, as they settle in, some women who recognize Elena begin mocking her past. The situation nearly escalates into a fight until Damian intervenes. Samuel watches silently, holding back his tears.

The next day, Samuel and Mona talk about the gossip surrounding him and his mother. Mona reassures him that one day, when she becomes a lawyer, she will protect both of them. Later, at the church, they are denied entry.

When Samuel sees Isabel arriving with her parents, he tries to help by carrying her across the muddy ground, as he has seen others do. While carrying her, Samuel suddenly feels a sharp sting on his foot and accidentally drops Isabel into the mud.

Franco, who witnesses the incident, rushes over and angrily pushes Samuel. Samuel tearfully apologizes, and Eduardo steps in to calm the situation. He later scolds Franco, reminding him of what it truly means to be a Hidalgo and emphasizing that he and Samuel are no different.

At the same time, Elena scolds Samuel after learning what happened from Mona. She warns him to stay away from rich people. Seeing his mother’s helplessness, Samuel vows to work hard so that they will never be oppressed again and so he will never feel helpless again.

Following his grandfather’s advice, Franco accompanies his father to the plantation, where Eduardo tells him that everything will one day belong to him and that he must learn to value his fellow man.

Later, Franco approaches Samuel and asks him to teach him how to plant sugarcane, offering to pay him. Samuel refuses the money, saying it’s not difficult. In return, Franco offers to teach Samuel how to read, knowing he is illiterate, as he does not want to owe him.

Both boys keep their promise, Samuel teaches Franco how to plant sugarcane, while Franco teaches Samuel how to read. They quickly become friends. Samuel later brings Mona to an old mansion to meet Franco and Isabel.

Curious, Isabel asks Franco how they became friends, and Samuel explains their arrangement. Isabel worries her father would be angry if he found out, but Franco reassures her that their friendship will remain a secret.

The children go to the river to play. When Samuel offers to help Isabel, she asks him to call her by her name instead of “madam.” They all enjoy themselves in the water.

Later, while alone, Samuel gives Isabel some food he brought. She admits it’s the first time she has felt this free, as her parents rarely allow her to go out unless accompanied by Franco.

Samuel jokes that it makes sense, as she looked unhappy the first time he saw her. When he still calls her “madam,” Isabel reminds him to use her name. Finding “Isabel” too long, Samuel decides to call her “Isai.”

She bursts into laughter, and Samuel playfully continues, making her laugh even more. Meanwhile, Franco and Mona watch from a distance, both frowning.
