The show begins with a wounded young woman called Li Jiayu being driven somewhere by a sinister character. When the driver stops somewhere, the woman manages to get away from him, only to be forced off the road.
As she hangs onto a branch, dangling in midair, another woman in black shows up with the driver and Li Jiayu is shocked to realize that they had planned everything together.
The branch breaks and Jiayu falls and tumbles into a valley supposedly to her death. Some years earlier a private hospital, the doctor assures Mr. Haoze that no one would know that it was his wife who donated her liver to his father.
A series of flashbacks reveal how Haoze had proposed to his sweetheart Xinyan, only for his father to insist that he marry Jiayu instead. Xinyan recalls all these incidents and she soon contacts Haoze who’s eager to weasel out of his 10 years marriage with Jiayu to be with her (Xinyan).
Tianming, the successor of a coffee business sees an online post about himself and not happy with the headline, he decides to go and confront his father the chairman at the hospital. Yanan his chatty companion decides to tag along. Mr. Haoze plays the role of a good husband to his wife and he convinces her not to tell her family about her decision to donate her liver to his father.
Jiayu meets up with her mother at a restaurant somewhere. She does a little catching up with her before giving her some money from her husband. The next day, Jiayu goes to the private hospital to proceed with the donation and she inadvertently has an unfriendly encounter with Tianming.
A moment later, Tianming and Yanan have an encounter with both their fathers. After Yanan leaves with hers, Tianming has an exchange of words with his, criticizing him for prioritizing his business over their family.
Jiayu’s mother picks up her son Jiaxing from the airport and when she brings her home, the guy begins whining about the low class house she’s been living in while his sister (Jiayu) lives comfortably in a nice house.
The mother scolds her son and gives him some pocket money from his sister and the boy takes more money from the bundle. At the hospital, Mrs. Hao (Haoze’s mother) whines about the supposed bad luck Jiayu had brought her family and her husband Mr. Hao reprimands her and gives her a piece of his mind.
Later, Haoze finds his wife at the waiting area and he puts on a show of concern and leads her on all the way to the long-awaited moment. Jaiyu is taken into the operation room and the doctors begin their work. Eventually, Haoze is delighted when he learns that his father’s surgery had gone on smoothly.
While Jiayu is still recuperating, Xinyan sneaks into her room, stares down at her and declares that she would take away everything she has. She reflects on something Jaiyu had done in the past that had ruined her life completely.
The next morning, Jiayu wakes up with a start, saying that someone tried to choke her to death. The nurse indulges her and urges her to calm down. When Jiayu goes to use the washroom, she gets agitated when she notices some marks on her neck, wondering whether someone had really tried to choke her.
She calls her husband on phone to tell her about the incident and Haoze trivializes the matter, stating that it’s likely she had just had a nightmare. Jiayu insists that someone had really tried to choke her last night because of the fingerprints she had found on her neck.
