“Carlos, stay away from my wife. I don’t want any trouble. You two had history. And after what happened, we can no longer live under the same roof.”
Cassie confronted Marga and asked if she had really tried to frame her up for cheating. Marga was speechless as Cassie went on to say that Nadya had told her everything.
“And you believe her?” Marga asked.
“That’s why I am asking you. Giving you the benefit of the doubt.”
“But from the tone of your voice it’s like you’ve already accused me, and there I was thinking you were smart when you just believe everything that Nadya says. Cassie, they just want to ruin me.”
“Just like you. You’re not different from them, right?”
“So you do believe them.”
“Marga, considering the number of times you lied to me and blamed me, I have all the right to doubt you.”
“Then why are we still having this conversation? We have nothing else to talk about. Believe whatever you want, I don’t care anyway. Just stay out of my business.”
“To think I spent all day looking for a way to help you.”
“Why, who told you to help me? Didn’t I tell you you’re making things worse by getting involved? I don’t need your help. I can prove that I did not cheat on my own.”
Marga confronted the Mean Squad for backstabbing her, and Nadya told her that she would have done the same thing had she been in her position. “I learned from you, remember?”
“Seems you haven’t learned enough,” Marga shot at her. “You do realize I still have something against you, right? What would everyone say when they find out that you stole Cassie’s design during the Fashion Show?”
Nadya smiled. “Go ahead. I won’t stop you. Because of the cheating incident, no one would believe you anymore. And if it’s still not clear, you are no longer the queen here in Maxwell, and because you’re also poor now, you’re not even a princess.”
“You think I’ll let you get away with this?”
“You don’t scare me Marga. Not anymore.” Nadya walked away and Nica followed.
Maureen stayed behind.”Marga, am sorry,” she mumbled. “I tried to stop them, but you know how Nadya is, right?”
“What’s done is done, Maureen,” Marga hissed. “Now I need to clear my name from this.”
“Marga…
“You’re the one who stole the test paper in the first place. Just tell them the truth.”
Maureen was horrified. “Marga, you know I can’t do that. I wouldn’t have gone to this point if it wasn’t for your plan. Am sorry, but I can’t help you out.”
Maureen walked away too and Marga was left behind, frustrated. Carlos and Romina geared up and entered the freezer room at the factory. Mina mentioned that she was very impressed with his team because unlike their previous suppliers, they seemed efficient.
Carlos stared at her for a while, smiling. “You have changed a lot.”
“Well, a lot has happened, Carlos.”
“Are you happy with your life?”
“Of course I am. And am sure you are too.”
Outside the freezer room, a worker found the freezer door opened and he closed it and walked away. The door was now locked from the outside.
Bonita and Neil ran into Robert at Camila. “Neil, am very sorry but it doesn’t look good for you,” Robert announced.
“I didn’t do anything, Robert. I owe you so much. I have no reason to do that to you.”
“As I’ve said, it’s just for now. Don’t worry, we’ll find the truth soon enough. And the investigation is not yet over. Just be patient.”
Back in the freezer room, Carlos had finished making his checks. Mina was trying to open the door but it wouldn’t budge. There wasn’t any signal to call for help. Carlos tried in vain to get the door open while Mina was frantic, shouting out for help.
“It’s okay. Calm down,” Carlos said.
“How can I calm down? We’re trapped in here.”
Back in the hallway at Camila, Robert asked where Romina was and Bonita told him she was at the warehouse for the scheduled inspection.
“She’s been gone for a long time,” Robert worried. “Can you just message her and tell her to meet me at the plant?”
“Alright, sir.”
Romina was still frantic, banging and shouting for someone to open the door. She was freezing cold, and so was Carlos.
“Carlos, what are we going to do? How are we going to get out of here? What if no one hears us?”
“Calm down, Romina. Panicking won’t help us.”
“We have to think fast. No one can hear us from outside.” Mina sat on the floor, shivering.
“Don’t worry. We’ll get out of here soon. I guess we’re destined to celebrate our Christmas here,” Carlos joked. He joined Mina on the floor and told her about the weather in Taiwan and how he had celebrated Christmas on a cold freezing weather with Daniela.
“I don’t know what happened,” Carlos said. “We were so happy, especially when Marga came into our lives. And then she changed a lot. Now all she wants to do is succeed, and I don’t know how to talk with her.”
“I also felt that way when Robert and I were just starting out. It was like I was always behind him. He had already proved and accomplished so many things, but Robert never let me feel that I was inferior to him. He supported all of my dreams, so am lucky to have him. No matter what came our way, he never gave up on me.”
“He’s also lucky to have you. You’ve also accomplished a lot; a career woman, a good wife and of course, a responsible parent.”
Mina stared at him for a while. “You know I grew up in a poor and broken home, right? So I don’t want my child to have the same struggles I did. At the end, you’ll do everything for your child, and your family.”
“You underestimate me, Romina,” Danny girl said to herself at her desk at Camila. She had made hard copies of Mina’s files. “And that will be the reason for your own downfall.” She made a phone call.
“Primarosa office. Good evening,”
“Yeah, this is Daniela Mondragon Bartolome. I’d like to speak with my husband, Carlos Bartolome.”
“Mr. Bartolome isn’t back yet, ma’am.”
“Why? Where did he go?”
The woman at Primarosa checked her computer. “According to the log, he’s still at the Camila warehouse for an inspection.”
Daniela stood up. “Camila?”
Back in the freezer room, Romina and Carlos tried opening the door and calling out for help again, but it was of no use.
“Romina, are you okay?” Carlos asked.
“What if something bad happens to us?” Mina worried. “My family still needs me.”
Carlos then brought her closer to himself, sharing body heat so they could keep warm and not freeze to death. “Please stay strong,” he said.
Robert went to the warehouse and asked a worker whether she had seen Romina. He was told that Mina had been there a while a go for the inspection.
“Where’s Carlos?” Robert asked.
“I’m looking for him too, sir,” the woman said. “They were here together earlier.”
“Call your supervisor. I’d like to speak with him.”
“Okay, sir.”
Daniela arrived a second later. She asked her father if he had seen her husband, and Robert asked what she was doing there.
“I called his office. They told me he was here, so I dropped by,” Daniela explained. “Imagine my surprise when your employee told me you were also looking for your wife. They’re together, dad.”
Robert sighed. “Stop it, Daniela. There’s nothing wrong with them working together. They’re just doing their jobs.”
Danny girl scoffed. “Nothing wrong? We both can’t find them. We can’t contact them.”
“Come on. They’re not doing anything wrong. They’re working. They’re at work.”
“I’m going to look for my husband, dad. And I suggest you go looking for your wife.”
Daniela and Robert went into the freezer room and found Mina and Carlos passed out, huddled so close to each other.
“What’s happening here?” Danny girl demanded.
Robert hurriedly carried Mina out while a worker assisted Daniela in dragging her husband out. Romina and Carlos had been admitted at the hospital. The doctor told Daniela and Robert that they had nothing to worry about as long as the patients kept their core temperatures in check.
“The good thing is that, your husband thought of sharing body heat while they were inside the freezer,” the doctor said to Daniela. “Or it could have been worse.”
Robert seemed confused. “Body heat?”
“Yes, body heat. It’s a common prevention method against hypothermia. It’s a way to maintain a person’s core temperature by staying close to each other to share body heat. It would have been bad if they didn’t do that.”
Daniela turned and gave unconscious Carlos a look. Romina had regained consciousness and Robert asked how she was feeling.
“Much better,” Mina said.
“Are you sure?”
Mina nodded.
“Cassie was here earlier,” Robert revealed. “She didn’t want to go home. She wanted to stay with you.”
“It’s a good thing you convinced her to leave. She has class tomorrow.”
“That’s what I told her.”
“Am so sorry,” Mina apologized. “I made you and Cassie worried.”
“You don’t have to apologize. You didn’t mean for this to happen. Are you sure you don’t feel… anything different?”
“Robert, am fine. I just need to get some rest.”
Robert took her hand. “I spoke to the doctor earlier. They need to run some tests. If everything turns out fine, we can go home.”
“It’s a good thing you came.”
“Yeah.”
Daniela was sulking by Carlos’ bedside. Carlos told her that if there was something she wanted to say, she should just go ahead and say it.
“There’s nothing to say,” Danny girl barked. “If someone has something to say, then it should be you, not me. Don’t you think?”
“I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.”
“So Carlos, how did it feel to have Romina in your arms again?”
Carlos closed his eyes and lied back down in frustration.
“Did it bring back memories?” Danny girl went on. “Did you reminsce about your past while you were clinging on to one another? What else did you do to keep each other warm?”
Now Carlos had heard enough. “Daniela, are you seriously getting jealous over that?”
“You can’t blame me, Carlos. Of all the employees in the company, you really had to end up going with Romina?”
“For goodness sake, Daniela. Listen to yourself. We almost died there and the first thing you do is getting jealous?”
At Camila, Neil told Bonita that he had visited Romina earlier. He added that Robert was with her and Mina would be discharged as soon as the test results came out with no complications.
Bonita had a laptop in front of her. “What really happened? How did they end up there in the first place?” she asked.
“Well… an employee locked the door to the freezer. He thought no one was inside.”
Bonita sighed. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“What you doing now?”
“Am just checking if Tita Sardines has made any press release today.”
“What for?”
Bonita glanced around to make sure no one was watching or listening. “The thing is, Mina and I set up a trap for the traitor here in our office.”
“Why?” Neil asked, still confused.
“Well your sister noticed that Daniela has always been hanging around the office recently. And also, during our last meeting, we saw her eavesdropping on us.”
A flashback was shown and it was revealed that Bonita had seen Daniela spying on them during their last meeting when Mina gave her the file to deliver to the board.
“So what should we do?” Neil asked.
“Am sure you remember that we only released hard copies of the file,” Bonita explained. “Even the copy I handed to Mrs. Galvez. We know she’s close with Daniela, that’s why we gave her a different copy. Daniela entered the office at the exact moment I was going out, as if things weren’t suspicious enough.”
“Okay, but how is that connected with you stalking Tita Sardines?”
“It’s simple. If Tita Sardines release the fake project we gave them, it would only mean two things; the person leaking our information could only be Mrs. Galvez or Daniela because Mrs. Galvez is the only person who has a copy of the fake file.”
At Maxwell, LJ told Cassie that she was glad her mom was now okay.
“Yeah, me too,” Cassie said. “Even Carlos is doing fine now.”
“Marga’s dad is a really nice person,” Fatima mentioned. He’s not like Marga.”
“Are there any updates on her cheating case?” LJ asked with a mocking smile.
“It’s still under investigation,” Cassie revealed. “Besides, she didn’t get the paper to cheat.”
“She said that? So what was she going to do with it, an oil wipe?” Fatima mocked.
LJ smiled again at that.
Cassie sighed. “She was going to use that to accuse me of cheating.”
“What?”
“Yeah. That’s what Nadya told me. They were supposed to put that in my bag, but they put it in Marga’s bag instead. And she got caught with it, not me.”
“And that’s what you call karma,” LJ mocked. “That serves her right.”
“Don’t tell me you feel bad for her, Cassie,” Fatima grumbled.
“Well, I can’t help but think that she has devoted herself to being top student in Maxwell. She wouldn’t have accomplished that if she didn’t work hard for it.”
“LJ, can you knock some sense into Cassie?” Fatima lamented. “I give up,” she added, looking away annoyingly.
“Cassie, no one is saying Marga didn’t work hard for her position,” LJ began. “But haven’t you realized she’s bent on sabotaging people just to get what she wants?”
“We can give you a list so you can see for yourself,” Fatima added. “It would take more than one remote paper though.”
“A full one? Guys, am just trying to understand the situation, maybe because I can’t think of any reason why Marga would do that to me. Is she really that mad at me?”
“No, that’s how she is,” Fatima declared. “Desperate. I know you treat Marga as part of your family, but who would put an evidence on their own family, knowing that they would get expelled if they get caught?”
Maureen walked down the outer side of the hall, talking to Nadya on phone. “Nadya, where are you? I need to tell you something about the test paper.”
Cassie, LJ and Fatima turned, watching and listening.
“What about it?” Nadya asked.
“I’ll tell you later. Please, Nadya.”
“Fine. Nica and I are at the grotto.”
“The grotto? Okay, I’ll pass by the library. I’ll meet you there.”
As Maureen walked away, Cassie hurriedly got her bag. “I’ll be right back,” she said, taking the direction Maureen had gone.
Romina was back safely at the mansion in the comfort of her bedroom, with Neil and Bonita. Neil wondered out loud why Daniela had still not reacted or complained after knowing that Mina and Carlos had been in the same room for hours.
“Monitor everything that Tita Sardines will release,” Mina said to Bonita. “And if they release the file we gave them, then am sure Daniela’s the one who leaked the information.”
“Why don’t you tell Robert about your suspicion?” Neil asked.
“Neil, Daniela is his daughter. Until we have strong evidence, let’s just keep it to ourselves, okay? I don’t want any trouble.”
Maureen met up with Nadya and Nica, and she admitted to them that Marga wasn’t the one who had stolen the test paper. Unknown to them, Cassie stood on the upper floor of the building, spying on them.
“Then who?” Nadya asked.
Maureen glanced around nervously to make sure no one was around. “I did.”
“What?” Nadya and Nica chorused in surprise.
From her hidden position above, Cassie had a look of shock on her face as she recorded with her phone.
“That’s why I wanted to talk to you,” Maureen went on. “I want to come clean. Am starting to feel guilty.”
“Did you even think this through, Maureen?” Nadya asked. “If you tell them the truth, we’ll all be in trouble. And Marga can easily say she had nothing to do with it since she’s the victim.”
“But Nadya…”
“Nadya’s right, Maureen,” Nica cut in. “If you tell them the truth, they will believe Marga and not us.”
“So keep your mouth shut,” Nadya barked. “Am warning you, Maureen. I won’t get dragged down because of you.”
“Where are those files you promised me?” Mr. Louie demanded over the phone. “As you know, am not a very patient man.”
“Relax, Mr. Louie,” Daniela said. “You know how tight security in the company is. You’ve got nothing to worry about. I already have the files in my hand. I’ll send them to you today.”
“Well, you better make sure, Daniela.”
Mrs. Galvez joined Daniela at her table and apologized for being late. She glanced around the place and Daniela asked if there was a problem.
“I just want to make sure no one here recognizes us,” Mrs. Galvez said. She gave Daniela an envelope she had brought along.
“What is this?” Daniela asked.
“Romina’s group sent me this new file,” Mrs. Galvez explained. “It’s a project proposal.”
Daniela went through the file.
“It looks like you know nothing about this file,” Mrs. Galvez added. “You better read it so you can come up with a better proposal to beat Romina’s team, or else she would surely be made president when your father retires.”
“So that’s how it is,” Romina,” Daniela thought to herself. “Let’s play cat and mouse then. You’ll never outsmart me when it comes to Carlos or the company.”
At the mansion, Mina went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. Esther wanted to assist her but Mina told her she was fine and could handle things on her own. She ran into Carlos on her way out, and tried to walk away.
“Romina.”
Mina stopped. “Carlos.”
“How are you feeling?”
“Am fine, just a little dizzy.”
“Am glad you’re okay now.”
They both said their names at the same time and laughed. Robert stood up there, watching.
“I just wanted to thank you,” Mina said. “If it weren’t for you, something bad might have happened to me.”
“You don’t have to thank me, Romina. Am sure anyone who was in my position would have done the same thing.”
Mina smiled. “Still… thank you.” She walked away and Robert gave Carlos a look from where he stood.
Later on, Robert confronted Carlos about how Daniela hadn’t liked seeing him and Mina together in the freezer room.
“Mr. Robert?” Carlos said, surprised.
“Carlos, stay away from my wife,” Robert demanded.
“But am not doing anything wrong.”
“Let’s not wait for the time to come when Daniela would lose all of her trust in you. I don’t want any trouble. I also don’t want Romina’s reputation getting tainted.”
“But Mr. Robert, you of all people should know what kind of woman she is.”
“You’re right, but you cannot control what other people might think of her. You two had history. And after what happened, we can no longer live under the same roof.”
Daniela appeared on the scene. She stood behind her father, listening.
“After all, you’ve fully recovered,” Robert went on. “It’s better if you distance yourself from her. The house I got for you is ready. You can move in anytime. It will be good for you, your family, and my family.”
“In short, you’re kicking us out,” Danny girl said, announcing her presence.
Robert turned to face her. “Kicking you out? Daniela, we’ve already talked about this. It’s for the best. It’s going to be good for your family.”
Daniela stormed over to stand before her husband protectively. “Carlos is my husband, dad. Anyone would be affected if they saw their spouse’s ex flirting with them. And I know you feel the same way.”
“I trust my wife.”
“You wouldn’t be kicking us out if you actually believe that. Am just wandering if you’re making the right decision of picking whoever’s leaving this house.”
“What? Do you expect me to send my own wife away? Daniela, Romina did nothing wrong. Can’t you understand that?”
“Dad, your wife is not a saint and we both know it,” Danny girl cried.
“Daniela, that’s enough,” Carlos warned.
“But you’re right about one thing, dad,” Danny girl went on, ignoring Carlos. “We can no longer live together under one roof. You’d rather choose that woman and her child over us?”
Crying, she turned to her husband. “Let’s go, Carlos. There’s no reason to live at a house where we’re not wanted.”
At Maxwell, Miss Alfonso told Marga that she had passed the exam but that didn’t mean she hadn’t tried to cheat. “But you’re not yet off the hook. We’re still investigating.”
“But ma’am, I didn’t cheat,” Marga insisted. “And I already proved that when I took the exam right in front of everyone. I don’t need to cheat. The test results speaks for itself.”
“But it still doesn’t change the fact that a stolen copy of the test was found in your bag,” Miss Alfonso pointed out.
“Ma’am, I was not the one who stole the copy.”
“But you weren’t able to prove it. This is hard for me too. Am your class advisor.”
“So ma’am, do you advise me to accept the suspension even though am not the one who stole the test paper?”
“Miss Bartolome, we need proof that it’s not you who took a copy of the exam. If you could give me that, I’ll personally defend you from the disciplinary committee, and ask them to take back the suspension. Can’t you think of anyone who could have done it?”
Cassie walked in just then. “Ma’am, excuse me.”
“Yes?”
“I do.”
Miss Alfonso gave her a confused look.
“I think I know who actually stole the test paper,” she said.
“What you doing here, Cassie?” Marga asked.
Cassie ignored her and gave her phone to Miss Alfonso, and she played the recording Cassie had made earlier. She glanced at Marga, and Marga glanced at Cassie.
Back at the mansion, Daniela complained to Carlos that her father wouldn’t have asked them to leave had he stayed away from Romina. “We could have stayed here longer,” she wailed.
“How many times do I have to tell you that I wasn’t doing anything wrong?” Carlos asked. “It’s not my fault we were trapped in the freezer together. Your dad is right. We should have moved out a long time a go.”
“You really think that’s dad’s only reason? Carlos, dad and I would have to be blind not to have seen how close you and Romina were. And don’t give me the excuse that you’re friends cause exes don’t stay friends with each other.”
“Daniela, can you trust me for a moment?”
“Do you think I want to feel like this? Who wants to feel like they could lose their spouse any moment? It k!lls me everytime I see you two together. No one wants to die a million deaths, but that’s how you make me feel everytime you’re with Romina.”
Carlos watched silently as Danny girl stormed off and started packing angrily. Cassie and Marga got home. Marga complained that she hadn’t needed her help and Cassie told her that she owed her for keeping quiet about what LJ had done before.
“This way, we call it quits,” Cassie added, before walking away. “Now we’re even.”
Daniela came in and Carlos followed a second later. Marga assured them that the situation in school had been resolved.
“That’s good. Go get changed,” Daniela said
“Why? Are we going somewhere?”
Daniela glanced at Carlos.
Later on, Daniela and her family got ready to leave the mansion. Marga held on to her grandpa tightly as Robert told her they didn’t need to leave right away.
“Why would we want to prolong the inevitable?” Daniela asked. “And we both know the sooner we leave, the better.”
Robert assured Marga that they would still stay in touch. Marga joined her parents in the van and off they went.
“Daddy, what’s going on?” Cassie asked. “Why did they all leave?”
At an undisclosed location, Myrna was chased by a goon. She ran into some other guys who were holding a crying, frightened Jessa hostage.
“Why are you in such a hurry, Myrna?” the leader of the thugs teased. “Did you miss me?”
“Boss…”
“Yes?”
“What’s this about?”
“Where are you going?”
“But we payed you last time, right?”
“Myrna, that was just half of the interest that you still owe me.”
Myrna went to stand before Jessa protectively. “Boss, we don’t have any plan to run from you.”
“Are you going to make fun of me?” the man snapped. “I know the way you both think about me. If I take my eyes off you, you’ll be gone in a second.”
He walked over to Mryna and began to harass her pyshical. “So, you still have something to say? What? Come on.” He grabbed her by the jaw. “Myrna, don’t you ever mess with me. If you don’t want your corpses eaten by fishes in the river. Do you understand, huh?” he threatened, giving her a sideways slap on the cheek.
Later on, Jessa worried that the boss wouldn’t stop harassing them until they paid their debt in full. Myrna assured her that she was working on it, and Jessa asked that she be quick with it cause ‘the bastard’ wouldn’t let her go free the next time.
“I would talk to Carlos,” Mryna said. “Even if I have to beg or kneel, I’ll do anything to get the money we need.”
At the mansion, Mina couldn’t understand why Robert had made Daniela and her family leave since they had all decided to wait until after Marga’s exams. Robert told her it had been Daniela’s decision and he couldn’t stop her.
“Maybe it’s because of what happened. Love, you know you have nothing to worry about with me and Carlos. It was just an accident.”
“Let’s not talk about it. The important thing is that you’re safe. And that’s what matters to me.”
Daniela and her family settled in their new house. Carlos went to get some things outside. Marga asked her mother why they had moved out so suddenly, and Daniela told her she didn’t have any choice.
“Romina might have continued flirting with your dad if we had stayed longer at the mansion.”
Marga was taken by surprise. “What?”
“That Romina is hellbent on destroying our family. She’ll do everything she can, Marga.” Danny girl glanced behind to make sure that Carlos hadn’t returned yet.
“I just decided to leave so she wouldn’t be able to destroy our family. You and your dad are all I have, and I won’t let that woman take you away from me.”
Marga sprang up to her feet. “What?”
“You know Romina had a thing with your dad before, right? It looks like they haven’t completely moved on from what they had.”
“But… what about grandpa?”
Danny girl glanced behind again. Carlos was still nowhere in sight. “Romina is both desperate and shameless. She brings nothing but destruction to our family. First, my dad, and now your father. They’re both victims of Romina. But I won’t let her win.”
“I can’t believe this, mom. So all this time, auntie Romina was just pretending to be nice?”
“That Romina is a common whøre,” Danny girl spat as Carlos entered the room at the same time. “She was doing everything for your dad to fall into her trap.”
“Daniela.” Carlos walked over to her. “What have you been telling our daughter?”
“Is that true, daddy?” Marga asked.
“Marga, don’t listen to your mom. Nothing she said was true.”
Carlos asked to talk to Daniela privately but she wouldn’t listen, saying that she had only been telling the truth and she wanted Marga to know why they had been kicked out of the mansion.
Carlos was disgusted. “That’s why you’re poisoning her mind against her own family? Is that how you raised her, Daniela? Romina and I aren’t doing anything wrong.”
“How dare you, Carlos. I am not blind, and I am not stupid. Are you still defending that woman after we got kicked out of my own house?”
“Didn’t I tell you to stop?!” Carlos demanded.
“Dad, please don’t shout. Don’t fight,” Marga pleaded.
“Marga, go to your room.”
“But, dad…”
“I said go to your room!”
“Go on, Marga,” Daniela urged.
Marga glared at her father and stormed off.
In her room, Cassie recalled the first time Marga had come to the mansion and how she had tried on her fashion designer bags. Esther came in with a glass of milk. Cassie took it and thanked her.
“Is there something bothering you?” Esther asked.
“Am just not used to it,” Cassie said sadly. “I mean, Marga used to stay here with me, but now this room’s quiet again. There’s no one I can talk to.”
“Then you can talk to me, Cassie.”
“But what really happened?” Cassie asked. “Why did they suddenly leave, right after Marga cleared her name in school?”
“I also don’t know,” Esther admitted. “Daniela lōvês this house. They moved out peacefully. Don’t worry, Cassie. It’s time to sleep now. You need to rest.”
Cassie forced a smile and took a sip of her milk. Carlos dragged Daniela into their room. Danny girl asked why they had to hide the truth from Marga.
Marga was in her room. She had her ears to the door, listening:
“I don’t know what’s going on in your mind,” Carlos criticized. “Why you’re dragging Marga into this. What will she think of me now? I’m her dad. That’s why she’s loosing the respect she has for me.”
